We are creating a series of curriculum-aligned nursery rhymes which support 1-6 year-olds with language acquisition, development and comprehension.

For each nursery rhyme and animation, we carefully consider:

• long-lasting engagement and enjoyment for children and adults

• language acquisition and development

• building musical listening and performing skills

• the instrumentation, using acoustic instruments to keep it as natural as possible.

• the tempo and pitch, making sure they’re appropriate for children to join in.

• the colour palette, using sensory-friendly and calming colours, ensuring it’s appropriate for children with sensory sensitivities.

• the pacing of the captions, so that they’re easy for children to follow (although the videos are created so that the children can learn by rote and do not need to be able to read).

Why The Humble Beans?

We know that parents and teachers have a lot of nursery rhymes to choose from. But as parents, teachers and primary experts we also know that it can be really hard to find the right nursery rhyme. So we decided to create our own, which are specially-designed to engage children in the most effective way.

Each nursery rhyme comes with:

• an audio file of our own arrangement of the nursery rhyme

• a video teaching children the nursery rhyme with specialist teacher support

• a lesson plan and teaching ideas for each nursery rhyme
